Since May it has been possible to travel hundreds of kilometers for just 49 euros a day - even abroad. The reason for this is the so -called "border tariff point". The 49-euro ticket enables everyone to plan their long-distance trips immediately-especially international long-distance travel. We help and explain how the whole thing works.
The magic word is "border tariff point". Border tariff points are stops or train stations outside of Germany, which are a few kilometers behind the German borders and to which the transport tariff of Deutsche Bahn applies. Due to these border tariffs, German ticket owners can travel safely and with a valid ticket across the borders to neighboring countries. The tariffs of the state and private railways of neighboring countries only apply from these stations. With the 49-euro ticket you can easily travel with connections from Deutsche Bahn and their regional partners and regional train operators to these border tariff points.
A helpful app of the magazine Chip lists the destinations abroad based on the route information and presents the exact train lines. It should be noted that for some border trips there are also bus routes on which the 49 euro ticket applies. With the 49-euro month ticket you can travel to the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland and Denmark. This means that Germany has nine neighboring countries and the ticket thus enables a comprehensive experience abroad at all ages - and that for a good five euros per country and month.
We have four suggestions for mini-interrails to the neighboring countries. Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland and Denmark - once around Germany.
Our first suggestion leads us to the Netherlands. Brandenburg and Berlin have a special connection to our neighboring country. For example, there is the Dutch district in Potsdam, the Holland Park near Schwanebeck (Barnim), the Oranje connection of the Oranienburger and the tulip festival in Potsdam. Shortly before the Dutch border, there are train stations in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia, from which you can reach the railways of the Rhein-Ruhr transport association with the 49-euro ticket. Our tip: Zevenaar and Arnhem. The journey there takes nine to ten hours and includes five to six bypasses, but it's worth it. In Zevenaar you can visit the Liemers Kunstmuseum and go for a walk in Arnhem in the quarter of 7straatjes.
Our next suggestion leads us to Switzerland. The journey there takes a little longer, but it's definitely worth it. You can reach Basel via Dessau, Leipzig, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Freiburg. Here you can cool off in the Rhine and explore the city. A visit to the banks of the Rhine and the Badischer Bahnhof Basel.
Our third proposal leads us to Poland. Unfortunately, larger trips to Poland are not possible with the 49-euro ticket. However, there are some exceptions. From Ahlbeck (Usedom) you can drive to Swinemünde with the DB Regio and use the 49 euro ticket. From Saxony there is also the possibility to drive to Zgorzelec with the Regio RE1/RB61 of the Trilex. There you can explore nature along the Neisse and visit the double town of Zgorzelec/Görlitz.
Our last suggestion leads us to Denmark. Here the selection of destinations is lower compared to other countries. Nevertheless, a trip to Tondern is worth it. You can get to Tondern via Rathenow, Stendal, Uelzen, Hamburg and Niebüll. The city is considered a marriage paradise and offers many opportunities for an idyllic wedding.
The 49-euro ticket allows you to travel many kilometers and explore different neighboring countries. With just five euros per month per country, the offer is extremely attractive. So, on the rails and abroad!
