New sports facilities on Markgrafenstraße: Kunstrasenplatz opened

Great joy in Berlin - the Markgrafenstraße sports facility shines in new splendor after comprehensive renovation work! With a lively fresh artificial turf pitch, the facility is now again welcome teams and sports enthusiasts. But that's not all: the drainage and the diving pit with a modern tartan track were also renewed. This is a real triumph for the local sports community!

The initiative for renovation was directed by the experts in the green spaces department, which with a lot of use controlled the transformation process. The planning started in July 2023, and the construction work began with the first groundbreaking on April 2, 2024. After only seven months of hard work, the ceremonial decrease in the facility took place on November 4, 2024 - a remarkable success!

The transformation of this sports facility not only brings a new artificial turf- in addition, a beach volleyball and a beach soccer square were created! These new offers offer even more opportunities for sport and make the facility a popular meeting place for sports lovers of all ages.

Thanks to excellent cooperation within the authorities, a whopping 1.5 million euros were able to flow into the work from the SSP funds (sports facility renovation program). It is a remarkable performance that shows how important support for sport is and how it benefits the teams.

In the meantime, the existing clubs were skillfully redistributed to other sports facilities, so that training operations could continue without major interruptions. But now it says: on the big reopening!

The big opening game!

Already on November 6th at 7:00 p.m., the Markgrafenstraße sports facility will be revived with a spectacular competitive game. The 1st women's team of the Polar Penguins Association will play the opening game - and you shouldn't miss that! Be there when the sports facility awakens again and the enthusiasm for sport skims!
