Study: Emotional bond lowers absenteeism and increases job satisfaction

The best employees stay healthier, happier and work longer! A brand new survey by the AOK (WIDO) scientific institute shows that a strong emotional bond between employee and your company is not just desirable, but has a direct influence on health and absenteeism. These revolutionary findings are recorded in absenteeism 2024 and require companies to actively act!

"If the bosses support their employees, they are not only more satisfied, but also less sick!" Explains Johanna Baumgardt, the head of the research area for occupational health promotion in the Wido. According to the study, satisfaction among the respondents increases dratically when they feel emotionally bound to their employer. Only 6.4 percent of employees thought to change their jobs within one year! An overwhelming part, a whopping 57.3 percent, plans to stay until retirement!

lower absenteeism, better health!

The stunning results show that employees who feel more bound to their organization are also less likely to be on sick leave. These employees are less susceptible to diseases and take a few days due to illnesses. This is right for the study, which shows a clear connection between binding and health. "The companies have to do more for the satisfaction of their employees, otherwise they will lose them in the long term," is the clear conclusion of Baumgardt. Almost all respondents (91.9 percent) confirm that their employers offer health promotion programs, with half of them already perceived!

On the other hand, the Situation is further heated up for the sick leave! The evaluation proves that in 2024 the absenteeism also remain at a terrifyingly high level-a record value of 225 incapacity for work per 100 AOK members is already recorded in the first section of the year, and that before the usual waves of colds! It seems as if we were facing an even gloomy result in the overall balance than in the previous year!

mental illnesses in the crisis

The steady increase in mental illnesses that cause massive absenteeism! The AU days have risen by almost 47 percent since 2014! The psychosocial climate becomes decisive, especially in professions that place high emotional demands on the employees. An investigation shows that over 50 percent of nursing staff have already thought about a change! In facilities with poor climate change, the willingness to change is more than twice as high!

dr. Carola Reimann, the chairwoman of the AOK, also rejected rumors about abuse in the event of telephone sick leave. A responsible use of this option during pandemic has ultimately proven itself. "The telephone sick leave relieves practices and helps the employees to stay safe and healthy," she emphasizes.

The correct bond depends, says Baumgardt, and the future of the world of work depends on how well companies support their employees! For more information and the entire press kit for absenteeism report 2024, visit www.aok.de/pp.
