Steglitz-Zehlendorf: New Parliament for children and adolescents starts!

Berlin, Deutschland - On June 26, 2025, the foundation of a children's and youth parliament was decided in Steglitz-Zehlendorf, which is an important step towards political participation for young people. The preliminary working title of the committee is ** children's and youth parliament **. The Initiative was borne both by the youth welfare committee (JHA) and by the district council (BVV). The aim of this body is to give children and adolescents the opportunity to actively participate in political decisions and to raise their voice in district policy.

A central element of the project is freedom for the young participants, the shape and name of the committee itself. In order to incorporate the ideas and opinions of the children into the design of the parliament, the team has already initiated workshops for the participation of the youth welfare office. These workshops are carried out with the support of the City Planning Laboratory Collective City Search and the Academy for Children's and Youth Parliaments.

planned activities and goals

One of the most important goals of the project is to make young voices heard and create a safe space for co -determination. In addition, children's rights are to be implemented and a fairer district policy should be designed. In addition to the workshops, various dates are planned, including a meeting on July 15, 2025 in the youth leisure facility Schotte and the ** Szummer Break Festival ** on July 19, 2025 in the Wannsee lido. After the summer holidays, the project continues, for which an initiative group is formed, which is committed to educational workshops and in exchange with other youth committees and in dialogue with politics.

The commitment to participate in children and adolescents also finds support in a national context. According to the Ministry of Family, Seniors, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ), there is the ** National Action Plan for Child and Youth Participation (NAP) **, which is intended to promote the visibility and effectiveness of the participation of young people. This plan, which runs by 2025, is committed to compliance with child rights and the creation of binding legal regulations for the inclusion of young people in political processes.

meaning of youth parliaments

There are already numerous youth parliaments in Germany, for example the youth parliament in Leipzig, which has existed since 2015, which represents the interests of all young people between the ages of 14 and 21. With a structured organization that consists of parliament, spokesman: indoor circle, youth advisory board, working groups and a office, communication between young people and the city council could be significantly improved, even if the turnout is less than 10 percent. These models show how significantly active participation and the integration of young people are into political processes.

With the establishment of the new children's and youth parliament,

in Steglitz-Zehlendorf creates another positive example that is intended to pave the way for an active participation of children and adolescents in political decisions and thus contribute to shaping the political landscape more youthful.
