The seniors of the Spandau district office, Berlin, have the opportunity to take part in a new training offer from February 28, 2024, which is specially tailored to the needs of older people. The training focuses on the areas of balance, muscle strength and endurance, since they can let up in old age and lead to an increased risk of falling.

This training program is particularly relevant because fall prevention in old age is a major challenge. According to a study by the Federal Center for Health Education (BZGA) from 2017, around 30% of the over 65 year olds over at least once a year. This can result in serious consequences such as broken bones, injuries and restricted mobility.

The Haselhorster Damm senior meeting offers this training range an important way to promote health and security of older people in the region. In addition to the direct health effects, falls in old age can also lead to social isolation, since those affected may be afraid of further falls and therefore restrict their activities.
