Podolski brings Döner Revolution to Spandau: Three new shops planned!

football legend Lukas Podolski brings a breath of fresh air to the kebab scene in Berlin! After the quick from his Kreuzberg branch, the 2014 world champion is now planning to open three new kebab shops in the capital - and one of them will be in Spandau!

Podolski, who already caused a sensation with his Mangal Doner branches in North Rhine-Westphalia, now ventures into Berlin's gastronomy. However, his Kreuzberg experiment, which started in April 2024 with great rush, has already failed. The kebab shop had to close in early November because it was only designed as a temporary pop-up store. Manager Marco Schepers explained that the concept without seating did not meet the ideas of an upscale restaurant ambient.

Spandau as a new hotspot

But why Spandau? Schepers sees enormous potential for kebab restaurants and emphasizes that the district is "clearly underdönert". Podolski plans to open in the first half of 2025, but the exact location remains secret because no contract has yet been signed. The competition in Berlin is tough, but Podolski is optimistic that the Berliners will love the Rhenish Mangal doner kebab and drive the expansion of the concept.

The kebab culture has a long tradition in Berlin, and the city is known for its high density of kebab shops. According to Statista, there were around 18 kebab shops per 100,000 inhabitants in 2022. So Podolski has a big challenge in front of him, but with his experience and name behind the concept he could conquer the hearts of the Berliners!
