Senior Marita Lohrke from Berlin-Mitte was concerned about loose PVC panels in her apartment for months. But their complaints with the property management remained unanswered. When she hired a floor layer privately to fix the damage, he rejected the repair. His reason: it is asbestos.

The 4. floor of the senior citizens' home on Iranian street in Berlin-Mitte is Marita Lohrkes at home. For 42 square meters, it pays 550 euros rent, warm. Due to the lung disease -related COPD, it is dependent on an oxygen bottle and her running is difficult for her, which is why she uses a rollator.

Since she would get stuck with her rollator, in contrast to the other residents in the house, she did not interpret a carpet. As a result, she has to roll over five loose floor slabs in her apartment every day. She has been complaining to the property management for one and a half years, but this saw no need for action, since the plates have been there for 45 years and the caretaker assured that they would not break.

frustrated, Marita Lohrke finally ordered a ground layer at his own expense to fix the damage. But the latter refused to touch the plates after finding that they and the glue were asbestos. Since then the senior citizen has been very scared.

"It can't be that I pay for a slow death here," she says desperately. She is horrified that nobody informed her that asbestos were installed in her apartment. In view of her lung disease, she no longer wants to live in an apartment that may harm her.

After complaining to the housing office, an employee came by and spoke out for the fact that she should move to another apartment immediately. That was already four months ago.

Only now has she received a temporary offer for an apartment in the same building from the housing office. A request from the B.Z. So far, the property management has remained unanswered.

Marita Lohrke feels abandoned and hopes that her case will finally be taken seriously. In her opinion, there may be no risk of asbestos in senior citizens' homes and no residents should have to be afraid of damage to health in their own home.
