Repair, exchange, celebrate: Sustainable festival in Neukölln on July 19!
On Saturday, July 19, 2025, a special repair and exchange festival will take place in Berlin-Neukölln, which should set a strong sign of sustainability and resource conservation. The event will open at 1 p.m. on Dammweg 216, 12057 Berlin-Neukölln. District Mayor Martin Hikel and Janine Wolter, district councilor for education, culture and sport, will be present. The festivities start at 1 p.m. and end at 6 p.m.
The event, which is organized by the "Repami - Network Quality Repeparation" initiative and Yeşil Çember, has the declared goal of reducing garbage production and actively promoting the circular economy. Visitors are invited, defective electrical appliances, clothing, bicycles, shoes, jewelry and furniture to bring them to be repaired or exchanged. Experienced craftsmen are available: inside and repair professionals to help the participants to repair.
a comprehensive program for all
The repair and exchange festival not only offers practical help, but also an entertaining supporting program. Visitors can look forward to live music, performances and various workshops. A mobile exchange shop for clothing will also be on site, so that a sustainable circular economy is funded. Particular attention is paid to the offers for children. These can look forward to soap bubbles, a barefoot path, handicraft activities and a reading time. In addition, musical instruments are made from everyday materials.
The event is free of charge and open to all citizens: open inside. It is part of the “Null Müll Neukölln” project, which is actively committed to reducing the garbage mountains in the district. The aim of the campaign is to create a garbage -free environment and activate the population to support waste avoidance and reuse. The campaign runs from March 17th to April 13, 2025 and is accompanied by posters and premises.
background to the circular economy
The need for such an initiative is underlined by worldwide statistical growth in the waste revenue. Around two billion people have no access to a regular garbage disposal, which is one of the greatest challenges of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. Waste, especially plastic waste and electronic waste, not only burden the environment, but also have serious effects on the climate and human health. In order to meet these challenges, organizations such as the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) are committed to implementing environmentally friendly management of waste and promoting strategies to avoid waste as well as for reuse and recycling.
In this context, the repair and exchange festival in Neukölln becomes an important platform to sensitize citizens: inside, to understand the importance of the circulatory economy and waste prevention. Supported by local authorities and initiatives, this event shows how a sustainable future can be designed together.
