Community and environmental awareness in focus: sustainability day and garbage campaign in Reinickendorf

The upcoming September 20, 2024 marks an important day for the citizens of Berlin-Reinickendorf. This Friday the second sustainability day will take place on Franz-Neumann-Platz, which is open to everyone interested from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. This day not only offers information about sustainability, but also actively promotes the sense of community and the participation of the citizens.

As part of the funding program "Living Centers and Quartets", numerous activities are on the agenda. From upcycling handicrafts, in which new materials are created, new materials are made to a sewing repair café, where clothing is repaired instead of replacing. Such initiatives are essential to raise awareness of reuse and resource conservation.

A highlight will be the handicrafts of insect hotels by the Naturfreunde Lettekiez, which not only involve children through practical activities, but also convey valuable information on wild bees and their importance for the ecosystem. "Sustainability begins on a small scale," emphasizes one of the people responsible. The focus of nature is an important aspect that is often neglected today.

The sustainability day is supported by the social department store of the "Rabauke e. V.", which not only offers the opportunity to exchange well -preserved things and clothing, but also wants to strengthen social bonds within the community. Visitors can not only cover their own needs by browsing and swapping, but also help others.

In parallel to these activities, the “clean resi” campaign campaign is launched. This initiative aims to collect garbage along Residenzstrasse together with the traders and the citizens. The commitment of the citizens plays a crucial role in this. "Together we can set an example and keep our quarter clean," explains urban development district councilor Korinna Stephan (B’90/Greens). She cordially invites you to actively participate.

The garbage collection begins at 1 p.m. at the information office at Raschdorffstraße 5 and ends around 2.45 p.m. on Franz-Neumann-Platz. Griffin tongs and brooms are available on site to make work easier. These initiatives impressively show how important it is to actively protect the environment and promote the cohesion of the community.

By getting involved in events such as sustainability day, we not only make a contribution to the environment, but also raise awareness of sustainable practices in everyday life. Responsibility for our environment is in our hands, and such actions are a step in the right direction.
