Robbery in Marzahn: Armed youth steals high -quality technology!
On the night of August 11, 2025, there was a robbery in an apartment in Marzahn. At around 1:30 a.m., a 19-year-old opened the balcony door after hearing noises. To his horror, a teenager armed with a gun forced him into the apartment. The perpetrator stole several valuables, including a games console, a cash box and a mobile phone, before fleeing through the front door. The alerted emergency services were able to identify a 16-year-old suspect whose apartment in Marzahn was searched. There the police found the bag with the stolen goods and a firearm. The responsible youth commissioner in Directorate 3 (East) is continuing the investigation.
The robbery in Marzahn is symptomatic of increasing violence among youth in Berlin. According to current data from the Berlin police, the Prenzlauer Berg district in particular is showing a worrying increase in youth group violence. While 47 cases were recorded in 2021, the number rose to 557 in 2022, an increase of almost 60 percent. In 2023, the police recorded 591 cases, including 84 specific attacks and threats, which is the highest compared to other districts. Police attribute this increase in part to pandemic-related restrictions.
Violence in public space
The phenomenon of youth violence not only manifests itself in housing robberies, but also in open raids in public space. An example is an incident in the Volkspark Friedrichshain, in which a 16-year-old was robbed together with a friend. Many of the perpetrators are under 14 years and therefore without punishment.
In a further incident, a robbery on a money transporter in Marzahn occurred on Monday night. The perpetrators, heavily armed with Kalashnikow machine guns, rammed the money transporter with a vehicle around 10:40 p.m. They opened the money transporter violently and escaped with a second escape vehicle that only had three tires and, if there were accidents, an accident in the subsequent escape. The police reacted with a large contingent to arrest the fleeting. Betting holes in the front window of the money transporter indicated the danger of the attack, and it is currently unclear whether money has been stolen.
Police search efforts focused on the Neukölln industrial area, while heavily armed officers were positioned on rooftops. A license plate was recovered at the scene. It remains uncertain for the time being whether the perpetrators were found in an apartment or business premises in Neukölln.
The developments in crime statistics and recent events paint a worrying picture of youth violence and attacks in Berlin, which signals the need for both political and social action.
