Protests at the FU Berlin: Container village instead of teaching buildings?

The property on Thielallee 63 in Berlin-Dahlem, which is currently still being used as a parking lot, will soon be converted into a container village for 260 refugees. However, this encounters resistance, especially at the Free University. The university management feels over the same time because it was not integrated into the decision -making processes.

Although Free University is fundamentally willing to support refugee people, she emphasizes that the site is already required for its own construction work. The university proposes to use empty buildings of the Federal Real Estate Agency as an alternative accommodation for refugees. The Senate plans the construction of 16 other container villages, since the need for living space for refugees is still large.

The decision to build container villages at certain locations aims to move refugees from the emergency accommodation from the former airports Tegel and Tempelhof. Despite the need for further accommodations, there is resistance to the creation of new locations, especially in wealthy districts. The discussion about the accommodation of refugees creates mockery and criticism, especially against the Free University, which is criticized for its supposedly contradictory attitude on social media.
