Modernized parking access on the Weißen See: Inclusive and accessibility reached!
In the course of the comprehensive renovation of the park on the Weißen See, an important sub -project was recently completed. The newly designed parking access on Berliner Allee opposite Wegenerstrasse is now accessible to the public and enables a direct start from the lines 255 and 259 to the park.
The renovation of the old parking access was urgently required because it was badly damaged and did not allow barrier -free use. Thanks to the landscape architecture firm of Bargen, which took over the planning and construction management on behalf of the Pankow street and green space office, as well as the construction company Alpina AG and its partners, a new staircase with a ramp system could now be installed. This has modern handrails and structural management elements that ensure safe and comfortable use for everyone, including parents with strollers, wheelchair users and visually impaired people. In addition, planting areas were upgraded and equipped with five additional parking benches.
During the construction period, unexpected challenges occurred, such as found lines that were not laid deep enough, and the disposal of highly contaminated soils from times of war. As a result, the financing requirement is expected to increase to 575,000 euros.
The new access is only the beginning of the planned measures to renew the park, which is to be supported by the federal program "Adjustment of urban rooms to climate change". Further improvements should include the sea circular route and the bank area in the northern part of the park. The district councilor Manuela Anders-Granitzki emphasizes the importance of these measures to make the parks in Pankow more accessible and attractive.
