New elections for the district advisory board: Your vote counts on October 14th!

On October 10, 2025, the Treptow-Köpenick district office invites you to a public election event. This will take place on October 14, 2025 at the Treptow-Köpenick Adult Education Center, Baumschulenstraße 79-81. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. The occasion is the new election of the neighborhood advisory board for the “Lively centers and neighborhoods Baumschulenstrasse – Köpenicker Landstrasse” funding area.

Since its founding in 2023, the neighborhood advisory board has taken on a central role in funding activities and represents local actors, including residents and social and cultural institutions. This advisory board serves as a platform for exchange between citizens and the district administration. His tasks include, among other things, participating in the planning and implementation of measures such as traffic studies and open space concepts.

Electoral modalities

The neighborhood advisory board consists of up to 15 members made up of residents, associations, property owners and businesses. Anyone interested in standing for election can also register spontaneous candidacies on the day of the event. Before the election there is a round of introductions in which citizens and actors present take part. The district advisory board is elected for two years and meets regularly to discuss current issues and make decisions about financial support from the regional fund.

Those interested can submit their candidacy by email until the election date lzq@baume-ecke-koepenicker.de or hand it over in person during office hours in the neighborhood office, Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Glanzstrasse 2 in Berlin. Dr. Claudia Leistner, district councilor, will also take part in the event and present her perspectives on developments in the district.

Participation in urban development

The election of the district advisory board falls into the larger context of participatory urban development in Germany. As explained on the urban development funding website, the involvement of citizens plays a central role in the design of living spaces. Participatory processes, such as citizen forums and workshops, help ensure that people can actively participate in the development of their surroundings. Such methods are increasingly being used in other project areas such as the Dragonera area in Berlin Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, where the aim is to create a diverse, inclusive and ecologically sustainable urban district.

Overall, the upcoming election of the district advisory board in Treptow-Köpenick shows how important participation is for successful urban development. The opportunity for citizens to contribute their ideas and projects and decide on financial support is a step towards a lively and active neighborhood.
