New water playground in Lichtenberg: solemn opening on June 3.!
Wilhelm-Guddorf-Straße 20-32, 10365 Berlin, Deutschland - The green area in Wilhelm-Guddorf-Straße 20-32 and Schulze-Boysen-Straße in Berlin-Lichtenberg has received a new face after extensive renovation and redesign. The redesigned facility has been available to the public since February 5, 2025, and the anticipation for the inauguration of the new water playground is increasing. The ceremonial opening is planned for Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. District City Councilor Filiz Keküllüoğlu will present the new attractions together with employees of the street and green area office and cordially invite all children, families and resident to celebrate.
The total costs for the comprehensive renovation amount to 1,050,000 euros, financed by the investment funds of the Lichtenberg district. However, the newly designed water playground has not yet been used due to the cool temperatures. In the coming weeks, it is expected to be put into operation in stable weather conditions and temperatures above 10 degrees.
inviting leisure activities
The facility offers numerous innovations, including the theme playground "Spree Ahoi", which is equipped with a sunken climbing ship, a slide and other play equipment. A fitness island with a Calisthenics system is available for sporty active people that offers accessibility and can therefore also be used by people with disabilities. Furthermore, picnic tables, hammocks and numerous seating provide relaxed stays outdoors.
The planning for the redesign of the green area started in the summer of 2021 with a comprehensive participation process in which ideas for children and adolescents were collected. A public information event took place on November 30, 2022. The construction, which was carried out by Märkisch Grün GmbH, finally started in early 2024.
extensive participation and planning
The entire process was orchestrated by the Lichtenberg street and green area office in cooperation with the Henningsen Landscape Architect Office. The use of the funds and the comprehensive participation process show the commitment of the Lichtenberg district to create sustainable and appealing leisure activities for the residents.
With the reopening of the green area and the upcoming inauguration of the water playground, Lichtenberg sets a sign of more quality of life and improved leisure activities in the district. The city invites all citizens to discover and enjoy the new opportunities in the green area as soon as the temperatures allow this.
