New shine for Adlershof: Historical marketplace from July for everyone!
Adlershof, Berlin, Deutschland - The structural redesign of the historic marketplace Adlershof in Berlin has largely been completed. From July 19, 2025, space will be gradually opened to the public before a ceremonial opening will take place on August 29, 2025. For this purpose, a program is developed that includes numerous activities. Another important milestone is on August 13, 2025 when the first weekly market is opened in the redesigned place and is to take place every Wednesday and Thursday. The renovation has been running since 2022 and was carried out in two construction phases as part of the "Living Centers and Quarters" funding program, financed by urban development of the federal and state governments, such as [berlin.de] (https://www.berlin.de/ba-treptow-koepenick/aktuelles/pressemageeilungen/2025/Pressemage Department. reported.
The new marketplace is not only characterized by improved structuring and expansion of the area for traffic and stay use, but also by creating a low-barrier environment. This is realized by a uniform stone height of the pavement and new path connections. Further improvements include shade -giving trees and additional seats that increase quality of stay. The installation of a rainwater rigole under the marketplace, which is part of the adjustment measures to climate change, is particularly innovative. Such structural measures are essential to address these future climate impacts. Precise information on the effects of climate change and corresponding adaptation strategies can also be found on the website of the Federal Environment Agency at [Environmental Bundesamt.de] (https://www.umweltbundeamt.de/themen/klimaenergie/werkzeugen-anpahnkt/werkzeug-der-anpfahrt/projekt-studien/anpahn-an-die-fehn-die-die-dawandels-in-der
design of the quality of stay
The project aims to transform the central square into a living public space. The improvements include new path connections, a better distribution of seating and additional tree planting for creating shady areas. The listed market fountain is preserved and supplemented with a water feature that supports the water management of the square. The area in the northern area of the marketplace is expanded to enable optimal use for events such as the weekly market or festivals. These aspects have been developed by a citizen participation in 2017 and by a competition, the results of which are now being implemented, as activees-adlershof.de.
The measures for accessibility are also significant: the cooperative and Helbigstraße is increased to the level of the square, which creates a continuous accessibility. The market criminal bite, the renovation of which began in May 2025, is supplemented by a barrier -free public toilet and receives a green orbit. In addition to the listed “Löwenbrunnen”, there are also remaining work on the water feature, while the completion of further construction measures is planned as part of the redesign for August 2025.
- Data from the construction work:
- 1. Reusable building materials and sustainable construction methods to reduce ecological footprint.
- 2. Extensive seating and locations.
- 3. Creation of shops through the new weekly market.
With these comprehensive adjustments, the marketplace not only becomes an attractive meeting point for residents, but also an example of the consideration of climate adaptation measures in urban development. This shows how important the integration of such projects into the urban space for a sustainable living environment in the future.
