Brave TV duel in Thuringia: Voigt and Höcke in focus

It was brave by Mario Voigt. But also risky. In the end, Thuringia's CDU state chief may even have achieved his most important goal: he has become better known, not only in his state, but throughout Germany. Voigt has boosters his own personnel in the television duel with Thuringia's AfD boss Björn Höcke. The price for this was high.

because his competitor Höcke also benefits. And that has an impact, not just for Thuringia. Höcke, the right wing in the right-wing party AfD, a ethnic nationalist, who may be called a fascist, received the best time for his slogans. The TV strike between him and Voigt ran almost in the media attention ranking of a chancellor duel.

to invite Höcke into a TV duel, causes him to win new voters and that he can dress his ideology in a bourgeois corset. This became clear when he disguised the new right concept of "remigration" as a measure for consistent deportation foreigners.

Höcke described the Holocaust as a "shame" in the TV duel-in a party speech, he once called for a "memory-political change by 180 degrees". This is not only unbelievable, here a history revisionist is washed with a bourgeois soap.

Speaking of history: On April 11, 1945, Allied soldiers released the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp in Thuringia. One would have liked to have been thought of that day of people who died through the German craze at the time. Unfortunately there was no room for this. Instead, it was only about Höcke.

Berlin

The controversial debate between Mario Voigt and Björn Höcke in the television duel not only caused a sensation in Thuringia, but also beyond the borders of the federal state. Voigt, the CDU head of state, was able to increase its awareness through this argument, but at a high price. His competitor Höcke, who is considered a right wing in the right -wing party AfD, was also able to benefit from this duel and present his extremist views to a broad audience.

However, Höckes' invitation to the TV duel also has a local effect. Due to media attention, he gains new layers of voters and can dress his ideology in a bourgeois corset. An example of this is the use of the new concept of combat "remigration", under which he hides consistent deportations of foreigners who are subject to departure.

Particularly controversial was Höcke's statement in the TV duel, in which he described the Holocaust as "shame"-this contradicts an earlier speech in which he called for a "memory-political change by 180 degrees". This illustrates his unbelievable attitude and his attempts at history.

In this context, April 11, 1945 was reminiscent of which Allied soldiers released the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora concentration camps in Thuringia. Instead of commemorating people that were killed by the German craze at the time, the focus of the TV duel was placed on Höcke.

In the following you will find a table with relevant information about the politicians involved:
