Munich SPD delays the implementation of diesel driving bans - criticism from DUH and VCD
The German Environmental Aid (DUH) and the Traffic Club Germany (VCD) criticize the Discharge tactics of the Munich SPD in relation to air pollution policy. Instead of implementing the diesel driving bans ordered by the Bavarian Administrative Court, the mayor Reiter checks whether speed 30 is sufficient to comply with the limit value for the diesel exhaust gas poison nitrogen dioxide (NO2). The coordination of the adjustment in the air pollution control plan in the Munich City Council is planned for April 24, 2024.
The DUH emphasizes that the air in Munich has been tolerable for 15 years and that it also needs urgently effective measures such as a court-arranged diesel driving ban also for Euro 5 vehicles. The introduction of speed 30 is considered positive for noise protection and traffic safety, but is not enough to reduce the pollutant values as quickly as possible.
Lawyer Remo Klinger, who represents the DUH and the VCD, emphasizes that the court in Munich has made it clear that it is now only about the examination of two variants: the expansion of the zonal driving ban to the exhaust gas standard Euro 5 or a route -related driving ban, also for pollutant class EUR 5.
It remains to be seen how the Munich City Council will decide on April 24, 2024 and whether the DUH and the VCD will take further legal steps.
historical facts:
- Air quality in Munich has been a problem for years, especially with a view to nitrogen dioxide stress.
-The DUH is known for its commitment in air pollution policy and has already successfully won diesel driving bans in other cities.
