Discover the art history of Marzahn: Guided tour of the district
On Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. , the Berliners can expect a truly artistic highlight! Under the direction of the renowned Wolfgang Brauer, it is an exciting tour of discovery entitled “Between Allee of the Cosmonauts and Bürgerpark”. The participants immerse themselves in the fascinating world of art, which shaped the Marzahn district.
The history of this art did not just began yesterday. Already in February 1975 - long before the first plates were placed - a working group of the association of visual artists (VBK) took the scepter in hand. Your goal? A revolutionary concept for the "artistic-aesthetic environmental design" in this new, emerging district of Berlin. It was not just about the simple attachment of works of art in residential areas! Innovative ideas for green and open space design, city furniture, visual communication as well as lighting and color design have been designed that still set standards. Until 1989, almost 100 artists designed this unique place.
Review of art history
But what happened to these unique works of art? From once almost 300, only less than half make it to survive the challenges of the time. During the leadership, not only referred to preserved works, but also the hazard that they are exposed. And that is by no means everything: even newer works that were created after 1990 are presented that make a decisive contribution to the lively atmosphere of the urban space.
The meeting point for those interested in art is Fichtelbergstraße 5 , directly in front of the popular "Aris Doner", opposite the Siemens-Gymnasium. The tour takes about 2.5 hours , and the participants are asked to register by email.
