Starting shot for Zeus: Volunteer in population protection in Lichtenberg

On 28. September 2024 was given in the town hall of Lichtenberg for the “Zeus” training project protecting the population. District Mayor Martin Schaefer from the CDU set a clear sign with his speech on this event: "The Zeus project is an important step to strengthen our society for crisis situations!" With this program, committed citizens are to be trained as voluntary help in disaster protection. The aim is to be well prepared for the emergency and to be able to act effectively together with the Berlin authorities.

The importance of this initiative is even more urgent due to the recent flood events in Germany and Europe. Schaefer emphasizes that "resilient population protection is now more necessary than ever". Prepare the citizens for emergencies through well -founded training courses in order to be able to help competently and efficiently if necessary - that is the heart of Zeus! In many cases, this could even save lives and minimize damage.

training that counts!

But what exactly can the participants in the Zeus program expect? In addition to a first aid course, important practical knowledge is conveyed: What to do at the site? How do the helpers behave in critical situations? What should be considered when using communication means? The tasks at the district emergency meeting points are also part of the learning program. All of these skills enable the participants to become the first point of contact in the fight against disasters!

"The participants are not only active helpers," explains Schaefer, "they also become multipliers in their district and sensitize others to the topic of population protection." A network of committed citizens is the goal! If you want to learn more about the Zeus project, you can read on the official website of the district office: www.berlin.de/zeus-lichtenberg.
