Artificial intelligence in pharmacies: opportunities and challenges

In a pioneering step, the pharmacists show how it wants to revolutionize the digital age! With the brand new position paper of the ABDA - Federal Association of German Pharmacist Associations - there is a comprehensive concept for artificial intelligence (AI) in pharmacy in the starting blocks. This is not just about highly efficient processes, but also about improving patient care. The pharmacists do everything possible to use the advantages of digitization at a maximum. But there are also warnings!

"The pharmacies are already leaders in the digital healthcare system!", Anke Rüdinger, head of the "Digital Hub" of the ABDA and deputy chairman of the German Pharmacist Association (DAV). "The AI can help us to master complex medical questions. But the final decision - it always lies with the pharmacists!" Personal trust remains irreplaceable. People cannot be replaced by machines!

KI - progress with responsibility

With the aim of increasing the efficiency and quality of patient care, the position paper clearly lists the advantages of AI. Whether it is about communication with patients, the security of drug therapy, the optimization of supply chains or the support of quality management - the possibilities seem endless! Even non-invasive diagnostic procedures, such as an analysis of the retina, could be used to identify diseases at an early stage.

But joy alone is not enough! According to Abda, the risks must also be minimized. The paper demands an ethical development and application of AI, whereby transparency, data security and user autonomy have top priority. Every step into the digital future should be well thought out. The pharmacists are aware of responsibility and only want to use these opportunities responsibly!

Development of the digital future

The pharmacists are determined at the head of digital change in healthcare. With their innovative approach, they show that they are ready to counter the future. But they will never lose sight of their most important value: trust between the patient and pharmacist. The digital revolution is in full swing, and the pharmacists are ready to participate in this exciting development with fresh swing!
