Deutschlandradio: A year full of successes and new plans!
On September 19, 2024, something crucial in the world of radio happened! The Deutschlandradio-Hörfunkrat met and laid the foundation for the future. An ambitious guide to quality assurance is on the agenda - a set of rules that sets strict standards and methods for the control of journalistic work on Deutschlandradio. The reason for this? The third media state contract, which has given the supervisory bodies extensive tasks to monitor the program quality!
Katrin Hatzinger, the dynamic chair of the audio cresite, emphasizes: "With the quality assurance guideline, we want to further concretize the order from the media state contract and establish a practical and efficient procedure for the demanding tasks." If everything goes smoothly, the guide could be determined in December - an important development for those responsible on radio!
annual surplus: Deutschlandradio with impressive numbers!
In the same session there was another highlight: the hearing funcate unanimously approved the annual and group financial statements 2023! And what a surprise - Deutschlandradio has generated an annual surplus of fabulous 17.4 million euros! This is like a real financial triumph if you bring the forecast shortfall of 13.3 million euros into play. An improvement of 30.7 million euros, which was mainly achieved by higher yields from the radio contributions and falling expenses for personnel and program!
taken together results in a budget surplus of 18.3 million euros. Wow! This is more than originally planned by 27.7 million euros. Without a doubt a reason to celebrate, and so the director Stefan Raue was unanimously released for the past financial year!
Future projects and data protection in the spotlight
An exciting topic was also discussed: digitization! The staff councils of the radio houses in Cologne and Berlin emphasized the desire for more participation during the ongoing transformation. Katrin Hatzinger noted: "We want and will stabilize this exchange because it enables us to gain an even deeper insight into the work in the radio houses." After all, this should give employees a voice in the middle of all the changes!
But that wasn't all! A newly educated committee for digital & innovation has already presented the first results that deal with the requirements of artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism. There is a lot to catch up to ensure that Germany radio can also adhere to a high standard of journalism in the digital age!
With 45 members, the Deutschlandradio-Hörfunkrat is made up of representatives of socially relevant groups. He sets up the guidelines for the programs and monitors compliance. The next meeting will take place in Berlin on December 12, 2024!
