Disaster protection exercise at the Helios Clinic: Berlin clinic ready in an emergency
An urgency test of the extra class: On October 16, a dramatic disaster protection exercise took place in the Helios Klinikum Berlin-Buch that brought the hospital to the limits of its capacity! Under the watchful eye of the Senate Department for Health , a scenario was staged that even kept the most experienced rescue workers in suspense. What happened? A auto bomb explosion followed by a terrible change of shooting - reality or shocking simulation?
In these turbulent hours, a whopping person 83 injured people were treated in the hospital! The patient's arrival was a real chaos, every injured person was a lively proof of the need for effective emergency measures. The special thing about it? The clinic staff was not prepared for this challenge - they had to react spontaneously and unprepared!
challenge and team spirit
"This unexpected challenge helps us to recognize the need to act flexibly and in terms of situation," said Prof. Dr. med. Henning Baberg , the medical director of the clinic. With a smooth interdisciplinary cooperation between emergency medicine, anesthesia and intensive care medicine, the employees do everything possible to prevent the worst. Here it was shown what teamwork really means!
carmen beer , the clinic manager, was extremely proud: "The exercise showed that we are well positioned for the emergency." She emphasized how important it is to be well prepared in emergency situations. Everyone has to sit in today's world, and that was exactly what was tested during this rescue exercise!
The Helios Klinikum Berlin-Buch is not an ordinary hospital. With over 1,000 beds and specialized units, it is one of the best addresses in the city! Here, 55,000 inpatient and 144,000 outpatient patients are supplied every year, and this on the highest medical standard. The clinic extends over more than 60 clinics and centers that specialize in various diseases.
preparation is everything!
"With realistic exercise scenarios, we can train our internal processes and the cooperation with external emergency services such as fire brigade and police," continued Bier. The exercise once again made it clear that emergency care in Berlin is not left to chance. The specific supply units for disaster cases are only further evidence of the high willingness of the clinic.
The only drop of bitterness? It is and remains an exercise - hopefully it remains with simulations and hard work and the Helios Clinic never has to exhaust its full potential in an emergency!
