Homeland protection exercise National Guardian 2024: 1,400 reservists Protect protection important infrastructure
The first nationwide homeland exercise of the Bundeswehr's territorial management command has successfully finished. After a good two weeks, the first nationwide home protection exercise of the Bundeswehr's territorial management command came to an end. From April 22nd to May 3, a good 1,400 reservists from the home protection forces practiced their core order: the protection and securing of defense -important infrastructure. During the National Guardian exercise, the cooperation with civil blue light organizations such as the Technical Relief Agency or the German Red Cross was trained.
"What you see here is a visualized section of the operating plan, the OPLAN Germany. This plan covers the range from home protection to the protection of defense infrastructure to the national territorial defense," said lieutenant general André Bodemann, commander of the territorial management command of the Bundeswehr, at the final event of the exercise in Rostock. "What is not practiced cannot work. This applies to the entire Operation Plan Germany, as well as explicitly for home protection." It is about having a wide range of homes to support the function of the hub Germany. In a possible crisis and warfall, they should ensure the deployment and the strategic laying of Bundeswehr associations, for example, to the NATO east border.
In a total of nine locations across Germany, the Bundeswehr's homeland protection forces trained their skills with the support of active soldiers. From Rostock to the Bavarian Feldkirchen, from North Rhine-Westphalian Altenrath to the Saxon Upper Lusatia. Always focus: objects worthy of protection such as ammunition and material warehouse, but also seaports, loading stations or logistics handover points of the Bundeswehr and Allied partner states in Germany. For the securing of the respective defensive infrastructure, the homeland protectors built checkpoints, led patrols through or supported vehicle movements by means of a convoy support center (German convoy support center).
"Even with a lot of stress, it means to keep calm, apply what they have learned and work through the situation after priority," says Stab Set officer Michael H. He is a homeland in Baden-Württemberg.
The Bundeswehr's homeland protection forces are currently organized in three home protection regiments and smaller home protection companies. The Bundeswehr is planning to set up another three home protection regiments by next year, and the need will continue to increase in the medium term.
