The same money for the same work: demands for the equal pay day in Berlin

An outcry of justice sounds from Berlin today! On the occasion of the International Equal Pay Day on September 18, the Social Association of Germany (SOVD) vehemently campaigns against unsustainable wage discrimination. In a world in which women still earn 20 percent less than men, it is high time for changes!

Reality is terrifying: in Germany, too, a huge wage gap of 18 percent gaps between the sexes! Michaela Engelmeier, the passionate CEO of the SOVD, leaves no doubt that this injustice is not acceptable. "This shows that we are far from paying wages," she explains in emphasis and calls for an urgent modernization of the fee transparency law that came into force in 2017.

a law that failed

But the wage transparency law has had little effect. This is to blame for insufficient awareness and the easily manageable regulations. The SOVD now calls for the rapid implementation of the EU entertainment transparency guideline that prompted companies with more than 100 employees to disclose their wages and to become active in the event of determined inequalities. "This is a crucial step for more transparency!" so Engelmeier.

This law should not only provide more clarity in salaries, but also strengthen the rights of the employees and increase the pressure on companies to create fair remuneration structures. The demand is clear: time for a fairer remuneration - immediately!

The way to equality

at a time, in equality not only a word, but a fundamental right, the voices for fair wages are louder than ever! The SOVD does not give up and fights for a Germany in which wages are gender -independent. Let us compete against wage justice!
