Füchse Berlin: Prantner will be out until the end of the year after shoulder surgery!

The Füchse Berlin will have to do without their Italian international Leo Prantner until the end of the year. The 23-year-old suffered a shoulder injury during the game against Frischauf Göppingen, in which he scored nine goals. This information was announced in a statement from the club on Tuesday. Prantner underwent surgery on his left throwing shoulder in Zurich on Monday, and the operation was successful. He can begin rehabilitation next week, which will last until the end of the year. Managing director Bob Hanning expressed optimism about his recovery and assured that Prantner will be ready for action again in the new year.

The injury-plagued player moved from HBW Balingen-Weilstetten to the Füchse in January 2025 and seamlessly won the German championship with the team. However, it is not the first serious injury for the talented athlete; In March 2024 he suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his knee, which also put him out of action for a long time. This highlights the high injury rates in handball, which are partly due to the high pace and physical intensity of the game. The most common injuries include shoulder injuries, torn ligaments and joint damage, as the sport places considerable physical demands on the athletes.

Prantner's replacement and future hopes

Max Günther, a 21-year-old talent from the Füchse youth teams, will represent Prantner during the healing period. Günther has already gained experience in the Bundesliga from last season with 1. VfL Potsdam and will be included in the squad for the Füchse in the Champions League home game against Aalborg on Thursday, where he will wear number 35. He receives a second game right, which represents a strategic reinforcement for the team.

This development comes at a difficult time for the club. The Füchse Berlin have also parted ways with coach Jaron Siewert and sports director Stefan Kretzschmar, which brings additional uncertainty. Despite these setbacks, there remains hope for a successful conclusion to the season thanks to the commitment and skills of the remaining players, as well as new talents like Max Günther.

The club management particularly supports the younger players and relies on their talent to overcome the challenges and stabilize the team. The next few weeks will be crucial for setting the course and the further development of Füchse Berlin.
