The waves hit high in German political events! What was once an agreement between the traffic light parties is now torn with both hands by the FDP! Together they decided two years ago that private sea rescuers - the brave helpers on the Mediterranean - are supported by the state! But today the reality looks very different: the vice chief of the FDP parliamentary group refers to these brave people as "state-funded smugglers". Has the political course really slipped so far to the right?

On the way to the election campaign, the liberals seem to be doing everything they can to distract from their own responsibility. Her previous promises are suddenly not worth much. Where has the decency stayed? The coalition agreement, in which they wanted to stand up for a "state -coordinated and European -borne sea rescue in the Mediterranean", remains only a nostalgic memory. This promised support of the private sea rescuers was more urgent than ever, because the drowning misery in the Mediterranean does not end!

Unnoticed by many, the border agency Frontex monitors the Mediterranean with high -tech, but without helping the dramatic circumstances. Boat owners and voluntary requests for help and are in the immediate vital, while the politicians here turn their back on land through their words and deeds! Voluntary sea rescuers are often the only ones who can help in an emergency, but they are criminalized and hindered. What should these people think when politics stamps them as criminals?

The humanitarian emergency reaches alarming dimensions! Again and again people drown in the waves, while in Berlin this debate about the support of the sea rescue is conducted. There is talk of a "civilization and legal obligation" that is existential for every human life. But the word remains empty when reality shows that life in the Mediterranean does not count!

It is high time that politics reflects on its basic values! Human lives have to be in the first place, and not political games! The FDP has to decide: are you on the side of humanity or do you remain trapped in the terrible reality of ignorance? The voices of the helpers and humanity must not fall silent, because the struggle for survival at the sea is a fight for everyone - here and now!
