Fair neighborhood run inspires Schöneberg: Together for fair trade!
On September 12, 2025, the starting signal for the Fair Week 2025 in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district was given with the first Fair Kiezlauf. berlin.de reports that the main goal of this event was to make fair trade in the region tangible. Participants had the opportunity to visit local shops and restaurants that are actively committed to fair supply chains.
The atmosphere of the neighborhood run was characterized by personal conversations and direct insights into the companies. Representatives from shops such as Winterfeldt Chocolates, Bon Vivant and Café Question Marks answered questions about their concepts and the practical implementation of Fairtrade. District mayor Jörn Oltmann also drew attention to the local importance of fair trade, which combines social responsibility with ecological and economic approaches.
Around the Fair Kiezlauf
The neighborhood run was organized by the Schöneberger Norden district council and served as a prelude to the Fair Week 2025. The aim of this week is to point out the importance of fair trade, which is based on dialogue, transparency and respect. As can be seen from the information from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (bmz.de), fair trade is intended to create more justice in international trade and secure social rights for disadvantaged producers and workers, especially in the countries of the global south.
The organizers of the Fair Week and the Kiezlauf make it clear that fair trade is not only important for producers, but can also raise awareness among consumers. Through your purchasing decisions, you can have a significant impact on living and working conditions in developing countries. This idea was also discussed at the event.
Highlight of the event
Another highlight of the Fair Kiezlauf was the raffle of two fair gift baskets filled with products from the shops visited. This campaign was intended to encourage people to get to know and promote the variety of fairly produced goods.
The initiative of the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district and the Berlin Fair Trade Alliance sent a strong signal for fair trade. The Faire Kiezlauf shows how local communities can actively participate in fairer and more sustainable trade, and thus offers a valuable first step towards more fairness in consumer behavior.
