Discover the world literature: walks around the Steinplatz!

On August 14, 2025, the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district office is announcing an exciting event in cooperation with visitBerlin: “Dare to have culture! – World literature around Steinplatz”. This literary journey of discovery around Steinplatz will take place on two dates: on Friday, September 12th at 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday, September 21st, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. City guides such as Marianne Mielke and Michael Bienert will lead participants through this unique cultural exploration.

The reason for these events is the Berlin International Literature Festival, an annual event that is considered one of the highlights of the Berlin cultural scene. The program will shed light on historical figures associated with the Steinplatz, including Bertolt Brecht and Helene Weigel, who fled into exile in 1933, as well as Ferdinand Bruckner and Walter Höllerer, who gave significant impetus to the literary scene after the Second World War. The Steinplatz itself is a center of a cultural, educational and remembrance landscape that has been explored since 2020.

Cultural institutions on site

Around Steinplatz there are numerous traditional pubs, bookstores, antiquarian bookstores, the Schiller Theater and the Vagantenbühne, which play an important role in cooperation with the “Scenic Writing” course at the University of the Arts. The last free tours for this year allow participants to experience the cultural diversity of this historic place up close. The maximum number of participants is 25 people, which is why registration via the district office website is recommended.

Characteristics of the environment

In the immediate vicinity of the Steinplatz is the hotel "*Roomers Berlin Steinplatz, Autographer Collection*", a lifestyle boutique hotel in an impressive Art Nouveau building from 1913. The hotel offers its guests an exclusive spa on the top floor, as well as a panorama fitness room and air-conditioned rooms. The proximity to public transport as well as the good accessibility of other highlights such as the Kurfürstendamm (600 m away) and the Berlin trade fair (3 km away) make the hotel an attractive location for visitors to the city.

The guests praise the hotel for his friendly staff, the excellent breakfast and the cleanliness. With an average rating of 8.7 based on 453 reviews, it shows that the quality is also valued by others. Another plus: Pets are allowed on request, which the hotel is on a "Proud Certified" accommodation for open and tolerant power.

Berlin is known for its lively literary scene, which has produced historical figures such as Rahel Varnhagen, Theodor Fontane and Anna Seghers. The city offers an extensive program of events to present and discuss literature, including book launches, reading courses, symposiums and workshops. These events extend across all parts of the city and contribute to the city's cultural diversity. Particularly noteworthy is the international literature festival, which takes place every autumn at various locations in Berlin and includes a comprehensive supporting program as well as readings on large stages, as visitBerlin reports.
