Eisbären Berlin are reeling: third defeat puts them in danger of reaching the finals!

In the exciting duel in the Champions Hockey League (CHL) on Sunday evening, the Eisbären Berlin suffered a narrow 4:5 defeat against the Brûleurs de Loups de Grenoble. This result was particularly bitter as it was the third defeat in the fourth game for the Berliners. This means the Eisbären are seriously jeopardizing their goal of reaching the final round of the best 16 teams in Europe. The encounter took place in front of 3,543 spectators in the legendary Corrugated Iron Palace, a venue that enjoys cult status among fans. The Corrugated Metal Palace opened in 1952 and has seen many memorable games over the years, including the spectacular match against the Adler Mannheim in 1998, which ended in an incredible 8-7 after the Eisbären had blown a 5-1 lead.

The Eisbären started the game furiously and took the lead early on. Liam Kirk scored the first goal in the 2nd minute, followed by Marcel Noebels, who added more power goals in the 8th minute and Ty Ronning in the 21st minute. It seemed as if the Eisbären had the game firmly under control and dominated the first two thirds. But the Brûleurs de Loups didn't give up without a fight and equalized with three goals in just three minutes in the second third. Sacha Treille, François Beauchemin and Sacha Treille again ensured the tie in the 36th minute.

Tension until the last minute

However, the Berliners continued to fight and Blaine Byron scored another lead goal for the Eisbären in the 39th minute, but the joy was short-lived. Valentin Grossetete scored for Grenoble in the 54th minute and thus ensured the final equalizer. The subsequent extra time was goalless, so the penalty shootout had to decide. Here it was Sacha Treille who scored the decisive goal and secured victory for Grenoble.

This game is an important test for the Eisbären, especially given their pursuit of international titles. After a last season that ended in the quarterfinals against the ZSC Lions, the Berliners are hoping to have better success this CHL season. While the home opener against Lukko Rauma on September 5th already raised great expectations, the current form is proving to be challenging.

The corrugated iron palace, which has had a capacity of 5,000 spectators since its renovation after the fall of the Berlin Wall and is used for special games, remains the training hall for the polar bears. The charm and atmosphere of this traditional sports venue continues to attract fans. The modern boards, which give way when checked, are intended to further improve the gaming experience for spectators and encourage the team to perform even better.

The Eisbären Berlin must now act strategically and decisively in the coming games in order to realize their plans for the CHL. If you analyze the last games, it becomes clear to the players: only with full concentration and team spirit can they overcome their impending deficit in the group.
