Eisbären Berlin suffer defeat: Adler Mannheim celebrates 7-1 victory!

On September 19, 2025, the Eisbären Berlin experienced one of the darkest hours of the current season in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). They lost 1:7 against the Adler Mannheim, who also celebrated their first win against the Berliners after twelve defeats in a row. A total of 12,055 spectators watched the game, which was characterized by an intense atmosphere from the start.

After just three seconds the first gloves flew, which shows how heated the game was. Mannheim dominated the first third and scored the first goals through Zach Solow in the 8th minute and Kristian Reichel in the 23rd minute in the power play. In the 29th minute, Marc Michaelis also increased the score to 3-0 on the power play. Eisbären player Yannick Veilleux caused the game to be interrupted after he injured Adler player Luke Esposito with an overly hard entry. Esposito had to be stretchered off the ice and transported to the hospital.

A game of extremes

In the second third, Berlin's top scorer Ty Ronning remained in the dressing room due to an injury. Mannheim again used a power play and increased to 4-0 through Max Penkin, who became the youngest DEL goalscorer of all time at the age of 16. Further goals from Reichel (37th minute) and Solow (39th minute) continued to plague the Eisbären. Maximilian Heim made it 7-0 in the 42nd minute, before Markus Vikingstad scored the consolation goal for the Eisbären in the 58th minute.

After the game, Eisbären coach Serge Aubin expressed disappointment with his team's performance and the way the players performed. Contrary to the Eisbären's current form curve, the team is now looking for stabilization, while the Eagles remain undefeated after their success.

View of ice hockey in Germany

The Adler team's demonstrated dominance reflects a growing interest in ice hockey in Germany. According to surveys, around 4.9 million Germans are currently showing great interest in the sport. In addition, there was an increase in the number of members in the German Ice Hockey Association to around 25,900 members in 2024, which indicates the increasing popularity of the sport. Germany took seventh place in the IIHF world rankings and, despite strong competition from North America and Scandinavia, has consolidated its place among the European ice hockey nations.

The Eisbären's next game will take place on September 21st against the Fischtown Pinguins, while the Adler Mannheim will play against ERC Ingolstadt next Sunday.
