Entrance controls at Görlitzer Park: CDU wants to keep dealers away!

Görlitzer Park in Kreuzberg is once again the focus of political discussion. After the unexpected theft of the newly installed turnstile at the park entrance, state security intervened to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident. Meanwhile, the district is faced with the question of whether and how safety in the park can be improved.

Work on fencing the park and setting up additional turnstiles is currently taking place under police protection. In this context, the Kreuzberg CDU MP Kurt Wansner has brought a proposal into play: entry controls for the park in order to increase security and closely monitor who is allowed access. Wansner plans to discuss this idea with Berlin's mayor Kai Wegner next weekend.

Entrance controls as a security measure

Kurt Wansner emphasizes that admission controls should not only be carried out at night, but also during the day. “The goal is to know who is coming into the park,” he explains. These measures are part of a larger concern of the CDU in Kreuzberg, which has campaigned for a safe and pleasant environment in the popular leisure area.

However, the move is met with mixed reactions within the population and the political landscape. The usefulness of the planned night-time closure of the park is also being discussed, especially considering that Görlitzer Park functions as a public space that is a popular meeting place for many people.

Given the challenges associated with security in the park, it remains to be seen what specific measures will ultimately be taken. However, the theft of the turnstile has increased the urgency of this discussion.
