Honorary Award for Journalism: Exception of the fate missing refugees
An exciting event in the heart of Europe! On Wednesday, the European Parliament in Strasbourg shines in the shine of journalism. The international journalist network Lost in Europe is honored with the renowned "Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism"! This price is not only an award, but also a powerful symbol of the struggle for truth and justice.
But what triggered this remarkable award? Lost in Europe has worked tirelessly on the shocking reality that almost 52,000 unaccompanied minor refugees are considered missing in Europe. This frightening number is the result of intensive research, which was published on April 30, 2024 in the Belgian de Standaard, the Italian news agency Ansa, CNN World and the Bundfunk Berlin Brandenburg (RBB). The RBB journalists Tina Friedrich and Jan Wiese, who are part of this impressive project, are particularly noteworthy. Their work has put the fate of these vulnerable children in the light!
a price with importance
The "Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism" has been awarded since 2021 to appreciate the legacy of the brave Maltese investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. In 2017 it was torn out of life by a devastating assassination attempt with a car bomb. Her tireless struggle for the truth not only contributed to investigating her own murder, but also led to the fact that several Maltese ministers and even the Prime Minister stepped down! Three men were convicted of this cruel crime.
This year there were more than 300 applications for the price that re -illuminate the diversity and depth of investigative journalism. An independent jury, composed of representatives of the European press and civil society, selected the winner - a sign that courageous journalism is valued and encouraged! The prize money of EUR 20,000 will be completely invested in the future research of Lost in Europe to ensure that the voice of the missing person is heard and its stories are not forgotten.
A fantastic success for the journalist network and another step towards a bright future for all missing children in Europe!
