Digital practice space exchange: Doctor searches are booming in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district!
The Marzahn-Hellersdorf district office draws a positive interim conclusion two months after the launch of the digital practice room exchange. This innovative platform was launched to support doctors in finding suitable practice space in the district. By the beginning of October 2025, 25 advertisements had already been submitted in this context, including 12 applications from doctors and 13 offers from landlords for suitable practice rooms. City Councilor for Health Gordon Lemm is satisfied with the use of the platform and emphasizes how important new practices are for health care in the district. The practice room exchange is a decisive step in addressing the challenges of the shortage of doctors.
The offers also include two existing medical practices for takeover. The applications received reflect broad demand in various medical disciplines. Particularly noteworthy are the 6 applications in the field of psychiatry, followed by 3 applications in general medicine and one application each in the fields of internal medicine, gynecology and hematology and oncology. Geographically, the searchers show a clear preference: five requests come from Biesdorf, Kaulsdorf, Mahlsdorf or Alt-Marzahn, while two requests are near Lichtenberg and one in the southern part of the district.
Support from housing associations
The positive response to the practice space exchange is not only felt by doctors. The housing associations in the district have also actively taken up the offer and are supporting the provision of free-standing commercial premises to doctors. GESOBAU has set up a communication channel that enables a targeted search for suitable properties. There are also discussions with other housing associations such as Degewo and Berlinovo in order to further advance the initiative.
The need for suitable and affordable spaces, especially for general practitioners and pediatricians' practices, is high. As Gordon Lemm points out, there is often a gap between the space available and the physicians who want to establish themselves. The practice room exchange is intended to create this connection and is part of a broader approach to improving health care in the district.
Digitalization in healthcare
The introduction of the digital practice room exchange is also in the context of the advancing digitalization of the healthcare system in Germany. Current developments show that digital health applications and innovative platforms are playing an increasingly important role. The Federal Agency for Civic Education emphasizes that digitalization in the healthcare system brings with it numerous advantages, but also challenges. When trying to leverage digitalization and modernize healthcare, several aspects such as protecting healthcare data and ensuring a user-friendly application will be crucial.
With the introduction of the practice room exchange in Marzahn-Hellersdorf, an important step is being taken to respond to the needs of the population and at the same time promote digital transformation in the healthcare sector.
