Digital health treatments: help with depression in everyday life
Fit against the dark cloud of depression: Digas come for rescue!
Imagine: Psychotherapy that does not take place in a drögen consulting room, but conveniently from home via an app on the smartphone - sounds inviting, does it? This is exactly what the digital health treatments, better known as Digas. These clever helpers have proven to be strong support in the fight against depression. This news comes to the European Depression Day on October 6, 2024!
the need for digital help
depression is not only present, they are also extremely common: every fifth to sixth German is affected in the course of his life. The call to the action is clear - the person concerned often shows a pressing search for immediate help. But how long does the time pass by a psychotherapist until an appointment? Months that can feel like an eternity. And medication? As a rule, they only work after a few days. Here the Digas start and swallow the valuable time that other therapies need!
"Digas can complement psychotherapy in presence," confirms Britta Marquardt from the Federal Association of Pharmaceutical Industry (BPI) e.V. The study situation improves rapidly, and the statutory health insurance companies are taking over with a cost if they receive a regulation. A real ray of hope for those who want to work on their mental health!
What are Digas and how do you help?
The list of Digas led in the BfArM comprises 64 different applications, 26 of which are specially intended for mental illnesses, including seven for depression. These applications that you can pull on the cell phone using screenshot are usually based on proven cognitive behavioral therapy. They teach those affected to recognize negative thoughts and to free themselves from it- very interactively with texts, audio and video material. A real step in the right direction for those who are looking for support in the fight against internal demons!
However, note: Digas are not intended to replace the personal encounter with a therapist - especially not in severe cases. The direct contact is irreplaceable, but the combination of both is the key to success. Studies show that the mixing of personal psychotherapy and digital programs is far more effective than the sole use of an online application.
The best of these digital rescuers? Not only are they available quickly and help with the bridging of long waiting times, but also support the stability of the therapy progress in the long term. They strengthen the feeling of self -efficacy among users and are often available in different languages. An advanced approach to a topic that is still too often pushed into the shadow!
Hope is tangible that Digas revolutionize the way we can think about mental health and how support can be provided. A new way that can bring light into the dark!
