The often invisible heroes: cleaning professionals in the focus of the ZDF. Reportage

The invisible heroes of cleanliness - cleaning staff in Germany! Sunday, October 13, 2024, 6 p.m. on ZDF. Reportage: "The cleaning professionals" by Felix Krüger illuminates a world that is often ignored. Over 700,000 people work behind the shiny facades of our cities, whose willingness to perform is indispensable, but is hardly recognized!

In Germany, the job of a cleaning specialist is not only underpaid, but also shaped by hard work and little recognition. Many of these heroes fight for survival - their wages are hardly higher than the statutory minimum wage! Even full -time employees find it difficult to make ends meet with their salary. This is not just a social grievance, it's a shame!

dirt and rubbish - an everyday life for Jolina and Achmad

Jolina and Achmad are exemplary for what cleaning staff experience every day. In Berlin you are in use for a car sharing company and take care of the dirt that rental cars leave behind after use. "Some actually consider the car sharing car to be a free garbage can! Invised chewing gum, leftovers, schnapps bottles-just disgusting!", Says Achmad, the shift manager in the cleaning point. They encounter bad conditions every day, although even a steam cleaner is used. Your special code for the particularly creepy cases? "KKK - shit, vomit, condoms." It is incredible - you have to struggle with it once or twice a day!

The actual heroine, Kerstin S., cleans in a university hospital in Dresden. Early in the morning at 3:30 a.m., she leaves her home to appear on time for the shift. Despite her essential role in the cancer station, she hardly experiences an appreciation: "I fight for recognition as if I was air," she says frustrated. The importance of her work is not questioned by the ward manager Bianca Böhm: "Everything has to be germ -free here. Without meticulous cleaning, the survival of the patient is at risk!"

Elia - a bone job with little wages

Another example is Elia B., whose reality as a cleaner in Berlin households is a bone job. At just 15 euros per hour, Elia is a bit above the minimum wage, but the monthly income of around 900 euros net is anything but rosy. When driving between the apartments, there is no scope for additional earnings. "Because of the long journey paths, I create a maximum of two apartments a day. The rest remains unpaid," said Elia.

The "ZDF. Reportage" dares to take a deep insight into life and the challenges of cleaning professionals. It is time to get these overlooked heroes out of invisibility and to reward their tireless efforts with the recognition they really earn!
