In Berlin and other German regions, forestry plays an important role. The forests in Berlin and Brandenburg are primarily shaped by their mixed forests. The region has various forest types, including pine, beech and oak forests. The Grunewald, one of the largest forest areas in Berlin, is particularly important. It serves as a local recreation area for locals and tourists and offers various leisure opportunities such as hiking, jogging and cycling. The forest also plays an important role in environmental and climate protection in the region. It filters the air, stores carbon and stabilizes the climate. It also serves as a habitat for numerous plant and animal species.

Historically, the forests in Berlin and Brandenburg were of great importance for wood production, especially in the Middle Ages and in the early modern period. The trees were used to build houses, ships and other buildings. The forest also played an important role in the extraction of charcoal for iron and glass production. However, the focus is on environmental and nature conservation, and the sustainable management of the forests has a top priority.
