The event's grand opening is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., following a program beginning at 1:00 p.m. Over 20 local initiatives and institutions will be actively involved in the design of the program. The offerings range from an intercultural language café and neighborhood speed dating to a comic exhibition aimed at anti-Semitism, racism and hatred, as well as a living library that focuses on LGBTQI* lifestyles.
Participation by local organizations
The extensive participation of local initiatives underlines the goal of Democracy Day: to promote active participation and networking within the community. The organizations that are part of the network include the AWO Südwest, the Steglitz-Zehlendorf Volunteer Agency, the Steglitz-Zehlendorf Adult Education Center and the WannseeForum Foundation.
The Democracy Education Network, which organizes the event, was founded by Alisa Wieland and is a project of the non-profit association Bidigi e.V. This association focuses on media and democracy education and has set itself the goal of promoting understanding and commitment to democratic processes in society.
Diverse program content
The Democracy Day program package offers creative participation formats for all age groups that enable citizens to actively participate in the discussion and shaping of their community. This also includes neighborhood speed dating, where participants can make new contacts and exchange ideas about local topics.
There are special offers for children and young people that aim to involve younger generations in the democratic process. The actions and formats are designed to create an inclusive atmosphere that welcomes different perspectives and backgrounds.
