Cyber security risks for business travelers: Companies react too late

hacker on the game: business travelers in sight!

In the world of business trips, unscrupulous cyber criminals lurk and the numbers speak volumes! Whole 70 percent of business travelers have already been the victim of a hacking attack, and a terrifying 24 percent of them several times! These alarming results come from the new survey "Chief Business Travel" of the German Travel Association. Those who are frequently traveling know exactly the risk: 60 percent rate the cyber risk on their travels as high.

This is not fun, because the companies leave valuable data unprotected. Optimal security guidelines are often neglected! While at least 47 percent of the respondents state that their employers have clear requirements for encryption to encrypt sensitive data and regular software updates, the protection is still falling by the wayside. And where is the sensitization of the employees? 44 percent of the companies use training to protect their employees, but many still feel in the dark: 45 percent of business travelers are only partially or even not enough information about possible cyber risks.

dangers from the cloud: How Hacker strike

Public WLAN networks are a prime example of the growing dangers, but only 41 percent of the companies demand from their employees to use a virtual private network (VPN) to protect. The confusion is great if only 38 percent even forbid companies to use private devices for business purposes! Another shocking fact: only 36 percent rely on safe passwords and only 32 percent set privacy filters for screens. That only makes the attack area for hackers bigger!

However, responsibility is not only among the companies. Employees must also be aware and take actively seriously. 37 percent often use VPNs, 34 percent are not quite sure how often they are traveling in safer mode. Are the passwords strong enough? 41 percent only sporadically put more effort than necessary - a dangerous game! And when it comes to protecting the screens in public, the concerns are often forgotten: only 33 percent regularly pay attention to how their sensitive information is presented.

campaign against cyber violence

The initiative "Chief Business Travel" wants to start here! The aim is to establish management of business trips as a strategic topic and to show the benefits of a well thought -out business travel management in cooperation with travel agencies. This also results in the call to the companies to draw up clear rules and offer regular training to protect their travelers.

The survey has been carried out annually since 2012 and brings light into the dark of cyber dangers for traveling specialists. 200 Decision -makers from various industries such as trade, service and industry took part in the last action. This study not only shows the explosive location, but also the need for effective protective measures!

We are at the beginning of a new era in which the protection of sensitive data does not have to be understood as a luxury but as a duty. The future of safe travel lies in the hands of the companies and their employees!
