Neighborhood festival at the Halemweg subway station: inauguration of the new green area
The district councilor Oliver Schruoffeneger and Christoph Brzezinski cordially invite all residents to a festival of the neighborhood to celebrate the completion of the Halemweg - Popitzweg Grünzug. The festival will take place on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the new town square at Halemweg underground station. After the opening of the two new playgrounds and the city square, the new green connection has finally been completed. A total of around 4.4 million euros from the urban redevelopment program/sustainable renewal were invested in the renewal of the green area.
The planning of the green connection began with a participation process in 2018. The results of these participation procedures were discussed together with the Lechner landscape architect office and integrated in the planning as best possible. The Lechner office had to meet many requirements, including socio-ecological concerns, the special features of the location over a subway tunnel and the embedding in the monument area of the residential estate Charlottenburg-Nord.
Since 2021, the construction of the green connection was carried out by Reinhold Fehmer GmbH. With its new concept, the green connection now offers an important urban area for sports, games and relaxation. In addition to benches, lawns and playgrounds, new perennial beds and trees were also planted that are insect -friendly and climate -adapted.
The festival on May 31 is visited by the BVV head Judith Stückler and offers a variety of offers, including music, coffee, cake, hearty and a colorful children's program. Information stands provide information about the various offers of the district center, the mobile district work, the family center and the world of animal and nature in the Jungfernheide.
The green connection today represents an important link between the residential area and the local supply center at Halemweg underground station and thus also promotes local public transport. The footpaths running south were financed by Deutsche Wohnen.
Overall, the new green connection offers a variety of options for the residents of Charlottenburg-Nords and creates a new urban area for leisure activities and relaxation.
