Heat action plan: Churches as a cool retreat in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf
The health risk from heat has become increasingly important in recent years. For this reason, the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district has put on a heat action plan to protect the population from the health risks of high temperatures. A central component of this plan are cool retreats and rooms that are particularly important in urban areas.
New this year is the possibility of finding protection against heat in two parishes in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. From the heat warning level 1, the Lindenkirche and the Trinitatismkirche will open their doors to give people the opportunity to cool and rest. Both churches have barrier -free access, drinking water, toilets and sufficient seating. However, it is important to note that visitors are not looked after.
The Lindenkirche in Homburger Str. 48 is open from Monday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., while the Trinitatiskirche on Karl-August-Platz is accessible on Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both churches thus offer an important point of contact for people who need help at high temperatures.
The initiative of the churches is an important step in the context of the district heat protection concept to protect vulnerable population groups from the risks of extreme heat. People who have suggestions or suggestions for heat protection in the district can contact the Hitze-email hitzschutz@charlottenburg-wilmersdorf.de.
Overall, this measure shows the importance of solidarity and common good solutions in order to alleviate the effects of climate change on urban areas and to protect the health of the population.
