Brandenburg's Prime Minister Woidke fights AfD dominance
Woidke's fight against right -wing extremism: The political situation in Brandenburg before the state elections
In Brandenburg, the upcoming state election is the focus of the political discussion. Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke from the SPD has made a clear position: his top priority is to prevent the alternative for Germany (AfD) from becoming the strongest force in the state parliament. He announced this in a radio show on Tuesday morning.
Woidke emphasizes the importance of this choice, which is not only crucial for his party, but also for the entire political culture in Brandenburg. An AfD election, which is currently in polls at 23 percent, would mean that it could even provide the Parliamentary President. In his opinion, this would be a dangerous step towards political normalization of right -wing extremist ideologies.
The AfD not only stands for another political agenda, but also for an attitude that Woidke sees as a threat to the basic values of society. "We have to prevent extreme views and an exceptional policy," he said with regard to the possible future of his state. Accordingly, he emphasizes that it is of the utmost importance to fight against the AfD with all democratic means.
On the question of a possible cooperation after the election, Woidke takes a critical attitude. While he strictly rejects a coalition with the AfD, his considerations on the party of Sarah Wagenknecht, the Citizens' Movement Solidarity (BSW), can be represented as more open. However, Woidke admits that the structure and leadership of the BSW in Brandenburg are largely unclear for him. This makes a possible cooperation complicated and also risky if the BSW should actually move into the state parliament.
The Brandenburg SPD is optimistic and sees good chances of success. According to the last Brandenburg trend, the party lies on par with the CDU despite the challenges, but behind the AfD. Woidke believes that with his positive experiences in conversation with the citizens, he meets broad support. "It's about the future of Brandenburg. Will we stay an open and tolerant country or withdraw into a dark past?" asks Woidke rhetorically.
The choice that takes place in about three weeks could have far -reaching consequences, not only for the parties, but also for society. Woidke's commitment to the AfD shows how serious the political situation in Brandenburg is taken and how important the elections are for the further development of the country. Citizens are faced with a crucial choice that will determine the values and future of their community.
