The focus on biotechnology: Heidelberg discusses future financing
In an exciting meeting that could shape the future of biotechnology in Germany, luminaries and decision -makers in Heidelberg gathered today! Entrepreneurs of innovative biotechnology companies came together to present their visionary business models and to give great recommendations for strengthening Germany as an international biotech location. The focus of the discussion: the devastating availability of venture capital (venture capital) and growth capital for start-ups!
The meeting was led by the parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics, Franziska Brantner, and the member of the Bundestag Anna Christmann (both Alliance 90/Die Grünen). An important point of the conversation was the brand new "Win" initiative, which was recently presented at the "Startup Summit 2024". This initiative is intended to help mobilize urgently needed capital and pave the way to global champions! Hard to believe that despite these progress, there are still considerable gaps in the area of the closed venture capital and private equity funds!
a ray of hope for start-ups
"The fact that the WIN initiative was presented with the participation of the top of the traffic light coalition is a huge step forward!" Calls Claus Kremoser, co-manager of the entrepreneurship, innovations and jobs. He hopes that the federal government will take the real problems of the biotech industry seriously and specifically act against the underdevelopment of growth capital and functioning stock exchange spaces. Because without these essential building blocks, no flourishing biotech ecosystem can thrive!
"The tax measures must finally be improved all around!" Emphasen Holger Reithinger, co-manager of AG Finance and Taxes. With an argument, he pursues the draft of the speaker on the Future Financing Act II and welcomes the new regulation for "roll-over investment", which should enable tax exemption for profits in the event of repeated investments in innovative developments. But for the closed VC and PE funds it remains with vague criteria- a clear competitive disadvantage that urgently needs to be addressed!
hope for biotechnology
The AG Finance and Taxes will therefore intensively examine the draft law to ensure that innovative biotechnology companies receive the support that they urgently need. "We have to make sure that Germany not only remains attractive as a location for VC and PE companies, but also attracts them!"
The WIN initiative aims to forge a strong alliance between business, associations, KfW and other actors in order to create a broad package of measures to improve the framework conditions for venture capital. Ambitious investments of around 12 billion euros are firmly planned by 2030 - a real reason for hope for everyone who believes in the future of German biotechnology!
