Libraries in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf extend weekend opening hours!

From Saturday, September 6, 2025, readers in Berlin will have an expanded selection of opening times in four locations of the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf City Library. This regulation will be in force until December 21, 2025 and promises to promote access to media and culture in the district. The decision to extend opening hours was made by the library management and supported by the library strengthening fund, which makes it possible to offer attractive services.

In addition to regular opening hours, the libraries can be visited on weekends as follows:

Weekend opening times at a glance

library address Saturday Sunday
Heinrich Schulz Library Otto-Suhr-Allee 98, 10585 Berlin 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (limited service from 4 p.m.) 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. (limited service)
Dietrich Bonhoeffer Library Brandenburgische Str. 2, 10713 Berlin 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (limited service from 4 p.m.) 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. (limited service)

Eberhard Alexander Burgh Library Rüdesheimer Straße 14, 14197 Berlin December 6th and 13th, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m

During these additional opening hours, library mentors will look after the locations. However, the service will be limited. Readers can use the self-service machines for borrowing and returning, as well as make use of the WiFi and reading areas. However, personal advice is not possible, nor is the use of Internet and PC workstations. Additional restrictions also affect the borrowing of interlibrary loans and special equipment such as Tolinos, Tonies or musical instruments, which are only available during regular opening hours.

Cultural offerings of the libraries

The Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf City Library has a lot to offer, and not just in terms of its opening hours. Numerous free events are offered as part of a varied event calendar that is regularly updated. The events are diverse and aimed at different target groups. This further strengthens the libraries' cultural offerings and is accessible to visitors at any time.

In addition to the offering in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, the Mitte City Library, which has seven locations, demonstrates high performance. It achieved first place in the nationwide company comparison “BIX – Library Index”. These successes are based on a clear orientation towards the needs of the public and the consistent implementation of professional standards.

The expanded opening of the libraries in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf is therefore a step in the right direction to promote the accessibility and diversity of cultural educational offerings. This initiative is part of a larger vision to make the library landscape in Berlin more attractive and user-friendly.

Further information about the locations and the event calendar can be found on the websites of the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf City Library, Vielfalt Ein Location and the City Library Mitte.
