Schreiner, who works as a senator for mobility, traffic, climate protection and the environment, is said to have quoted several times from sources when the dissertation, without correctly marking them as a citation. This procedure is also referred to as the "peasant victim" plagiarism. The allegations were checked and confirmed by independent plagiarism testers on the website "Vroniplag Wiki". According to Martin Heidingsfelder, the founder of "Vroniplag Wiki", over 100 such peasant victims were found. He describes this procedure as clear plagiarism and describes the work as completely botched.
Manja Schreiner achieved her doctorate at the University of Rostock in 2007. In view of the allegations of the plagiarism, Heidingsfelder calls on the university to initiate an examination immediately and, if confirmed, to check the dismissal of the doctorate. He sees the work as non -durable.
Not only from scientific terms, the plagiarism find has negative effects, but also politically. Schreiner himself strives to set up rules, but obviously does not adhere to clear guidelines, criticizes Heidingsfelder.
The case was known in the "new legal weekly" by publication by Professor Roland Schimmer. There he informed about the research of the plagiarism tester and linked the results with concrete examples of plagiarism.
A statement by Manja Schreiner's spokeswoman was initially not possible. The "Bild am Sonntag" was the first to report on the case and quotes a spokeswoman for Schreiner with the words: "If there were sufficient doubts about Ms. Schreiner's doctoral thesis, she would have the work checked."
It is not the first time that there is a plagiarism in the Berlin Senate. In 2021 Franziska Giffey, Senator for Economic Affairs and former Governing Mayor, lost her doctorate due to plagiarism.
