ADAC test: commuter-friendly bike+ride systems around Frankfurt
bike+ride: commuter -friendly systems in Frankfurt under the magnifying glass!
The ADAC took a close look at the large urban bike+ride systems around Frankfurt-and the results are amazing! While the big cities are flourishing in commuter traffic, the models for cyclists and public transport users are of crucial importance. Let's take a look at the exciting development that inspires residents and commuters!
The investigation comprised 80 bike+Ride facilities in ten major German cities, and there were eight facilities in the Frankfurt metropolitan region, especially: Heusenstamm, Kelsterbach, Groß Karben, Eschborn, Alzenau, Niedernhausen, Nidderau-Winecken and Kronberg. What the testers found out is the pure madness!
top reviews and a problem child
The results have been mixed: While Heusenstamm and Kelsterbach cut radiantly with "very good", five other systems, including Eschborn and Alzenau, have got the grade "good". On the other hand, the Kronberger Bike+Ride system has to be satisfied with "sufficient"-lack of roofs and too few parking spaces for bicycles are the negative factors here!
It is particularly noteworthy that the testers took a close look at all train stations around Frankfurt. The systems in Heusenstamm and Kelsterbach shone through great locations and direct entrances, which makes use for commuters child's play. No long ways - just on the bike, off to the public transport system!extras that should inspire!
Another shortcoming are the inadequate extras on the tested systems. Only Heusenstamm offers a maintenance station for cyclists! Locker? None! If commuters want to switch off their bike safely, they cannot do this in Alzenau and Kronberg!
In terms of charging options for e-bikes, it looked a little better: two of these eight systems have corresponding options. But are that enough? The enthusiasm of the commuters could still leave a lot to be desired here. And what about security? Lockable bicycle garages or boxes are essential to protect the valuable bike from theft!
The ADAC found that the situation, equipment and free capacities are the decisive factor for the acceptance of these systems. The feedback from the users shows that additional services such as lockers and maintenance stations are considered extremely helpful.
The ADAC has formulated clear recommendations for the future: a favorable location, roofing against the weather and safe storage options must be a priority! In addition, the cities should invest in the development of lockable systems to combat theft. Red-green cannot be everything-bicycle friends want collateral!
In the test period from April to June 2024, the testers explored the facilities outside of the holiday. The exciting tests took place from Tuesday to Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It remains to be seen whether the cities will take these results and act quickly!
