30 years of the BUND-Auerzentrum: Successes for nature and climate protection in the region
BUND celebrates 30 years of success: On the banks of the Elbe, environmentalists cheer for groundbreaking success! A big festival is celebrated in Berlin, Bonn and Lenzen today - and for good reason! The BUND-AUSCHENZentrum, like a star in the sky of nature conservation, has made an impressive contribution to reviving the floors since it was founded! A feast for nature and a reason for joy for everyone who participated in the projects!
with pride, those responsible can look back on the past three decades. In the place that Lenzen on the Elbe Castle, many committed people have contributed to the fact that the floodplain landscape not only survives but is blooming. "Our successes are more than just numbers - they are habitats for rare types and protective mechanisms against floods!"
imposing projects - a triumph for nature conservation!
Not only in Brandenburg, but throughout Germany, the Bund Auerzentrum has participated in two of the four biggest dyke references! And that has paid off: Proud 20 percent of flood areas have been restored since 2009, thanks to the support of the Federal Office for Nature Conservation (BFN) and the Federal Environment Ministry!
"The dyke back laying of 'Lenzener ElbeTalaue'-the first major project of its kind! Not only 420 hectares of former flood areas were recovered, but a whole mosaic made of habitats. Black storks, otters and numerous other species can be found here!" During the 2013 century flood, this area of the region benefited by lowering the water level by almost 50 centimeters!
Another success is the development of the "high yellow" floodplain as part of the program "Living Auen for the Elbe". Here the most valuable floodplain forest in the region was protected and another 420 hectares of natural areas were created. Olaf Bandt sees in these developments an excellent example of how nature conservation and local interests can go hand in hand!
departure to new shores - the next big project!
And the success story continues! Today it was announced that the BUND Auerzentrum will once again benefit from the BFN funding. In the federal program "Blue Band", the "Auen development in the Brandenburg ElbeTalaue" is supported with around 410,000 euros! Here, flood protection is combined with the restoration of the au forests - a real showcase project that could also be groundbreaking for other regions!
"We not only saved habitats here on the Elbe, but also secured a future for the region!", Eve Meike Kleinwächter , the head of the BUND-AUSCORT Center, is enthusiastic! The floodplains are not only a retreat for many species, but also a decisive factor in the fight against climate change. By saving water and CO2 you are indispensable for our environment!
Experience the impressive success story of the BUND-Auerzentrum in Lenzen with us-because every tree, every river and every floodplain counts! Shaping the future, finding balance and preserving the beauty of nature - that is our mission! For more information, visit us at www.bund.net/auenzentrum!
