Berlin. The Berlin fair celebrates its 100th anniversary. On July 21, 1923, the non-profit Berlin trade fair construction company with limited liability was founded by seven industrialists from the then leading Berlin textile or leather industry together with the city of Berlin. Today the fair is not only among Germany's most important exhibition locations, but also one of the ten best in the world.
For the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Messe Berlin, this is organizing an exclusive landing tour with the title "100 Years of Messe Berlin. A tour of architecture and gardens" on July 21st and 22nd. During this tour, the participants can experience the eventful history of the fair, which is closely linked to the radio tower from 1926. Among other things, meetings of the Federal Assembly took place here, in which Federal President Theodor Heuss (1954), Heinrich Lübke (1959) and Gustav Heinemann (1969) were elected.
The entire trade fair system in the Westend district is listed and impresses with its architecture of pre- and post-war modernism. The participants of the tour can discover the imposing entrance hall, the light -flooded historical exhibition halls, the charming ballroom as well as well -known and unknown green oases. The tour is managed by experienced employees of the Berlin Messe.
During the tour, the botanical highlights of the fair are also discussed. For example, the Japanese garden is presented, which is one of the less well -known gardens on the site and is considered a place of calm. Here the trade fair koi "Hansi" also swims in the pond. Some of the trees in this garden have been found there since the 1930s, such as the Ginko, the black pine and the maple. In addition, there is also the tulip tree and the chestnut to discover.
The summer garden of the fair is surrounded by pillar poplars, just as the landscape garden architect Ludwig Lesser had planned in the 1930s. However, the poplars were only planted towards the late 1980s. Another highlight is the bright yellow sculpture "Looping" by Ursula Sax, which can already be seen from a distance from the trade fair and the Avus. The sculpture was set up between the Japanese garden and Hall 12 on the Messedamm.
For the exclusive "100 Years of Messe Berlin. A tour of architecture and gardens" on July 21st and 22nd, 2023, the Berliner Morgenpost raffles two tickets three times.
