Future of Tempelhofer Feld: Citizens discuss ideas and designs!

Future of Tempelhofer Feld: Citizens discuss ideas and designs!

On July 12th and 13th, 2025, the third dialogue workshop took place in the main hall of the former Tempelhof airport as part of the participation process on the future of the Tempelhofer Feld. In this context, Professor Dr. Iris Reuther, the chairwoman of the price court, six awarded drafts that were developed in the course of an ideas competition. The participants had the opportunity to ask questions to the non -cash prices and to share their opinions in small groups for further design of the dialogue.

Christian Gaebler, the Senator for Urban Development, Building and Living, thanked the citizens involved for their commitment in this important process. The aim of the dialogue program is to discuss the possibilities of a careful edge development of the Tempelhofer field and to hear the various voices of the city population. Against this background, 275 people from the residents' registration register were chosen random to take part in the talks. This enables broad participation and reflects the variety of opinions.

Review of the dialogue process

The dialogue process is a reaction to the 2014 referendum, which has received the Tempelhofer Feld as an undeveloped area. Since then, however, the context has changed - the increasing population, demands on climate protection and housing shortage require new approaches. As the nexus institut , it is the declared goal to capture different perspectives and not just to limit a yes or no to the edge development. Tempelhof Projekt GmbH has commissioned this institute to structure and carry out the dialogue process.

Since the start in July 2024, there have been several sessions that propagate participatory approaches and also include the votes of the next Generation. The supplementary participation of children and adolescents who can bring their ideas into groups are recommended. The accumulated proposals and recommendations flow into the decision -making processes of urban development and form an important basis for future decisions.

public presentations and further steps

The end result of this dialogue process is presented to the Berlin House of Representatives. A public presentation of all competitive contributions is planned for September 2025 to make the results accessible to everyone. The ideas competition itself ended on June 21, 2025, and the recommendations from the second dialogue workshop in September 2024 are now being used.

The field coordination of the Tempelhofer Feld, which plays a central role in participatory development, has also done a variety of work. In addition to the organization of events on citizen participation, the info pavilion, operated by Interkular gGmbH, informs the public about ongoing projects. The value study shows the health benefits of the Tempelhofer Feld, which is used every week by around 160,000 people, as a visitor survey shows.

The next new election of the field coordination takes place in October 2025, with interested Berliners being able to apply until September 11, 2025. These new elections are part of a continuous engagement for the further development and the preservation of the Tempelhofer field. The upcoming appointments, including the candidate presentation on September 25, 2025, offer everyone interested the opportunity to actively participate.
