Weseram awakens wool wash tradition: new manufacture takes shape!
In Germany, there have been no wool wash manufacturers for over 15 years. The last of its kind, a wool wash in Blankenburg in the Harz, was closed in 2009. But now there is new hope for the sheep breeders in Weseram, a district of Roskow in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district. Here you plan to build a wool wash manufacturer that should enable the processing of valuable sheep's wool on site. The basic idea is to no longer send the wool abroad after scissors to be washed there, but to map the entire value chain locally.
Katja Behling, who breeds Skudde in Weseram, explains the advantages of the new manufactory. Skudde sheep are known for your fine wool, which is intended to gain quality through local processing. The new system can clean and dry up to 20 kilograms of wool in one run, with about five washes planned daily. This enables the sheep farmers to wash and process their shaved wool on site, which promises a significant increase in the quality of processing. According to rbb24, the manufactory will also be available to other sheep holders as a service.
funding and construction planning
The financial framework for this ambitious project is also promising. The basic expansion of the wool wash will cost an estimated 83,000 euros, with the Brandenburg Ministry of Agriculture paying about a third of the costs. Furthermore, around 33,000 euros flow into construction from the European Union as part of the LEADER program. The conversion of the former stable building comprises various renovation work, including the construction of an industrial company area, the construction of walls for the soundproof separation and the production of the required connections for water and electricity.
For the sheep breeders in the region, this project not only means an improvement in the processing quality of their wool, but also a reactivation of an old tradition that has a long history in Brandenburg. Sheep farming makes a decisive contribution to maintaining the cultural landscape and ensures that high -quality products such as meat, milk and wool. The sheep farming in Germany is characterized by a high adaptability of the animals to cold temperatures, even if the quality of the woolen dress can vary depending on the breed, fnr.
future prospects
From October 2025, the plans are, the wool wash factory in Weseram should start operating. The sheep farmers hope to be able to win other local sheep farms for their services thanks to the new possibilities of wool processing. In perspective, the manufactory could help establish the region as a production site for high -quality sheep's wool. This is how the goal is clearly formulated: the implementation of the regional development strategy of the local action group Fläming-Havel is to be promoted by the new project.
The project was not only launched as an economic initiative, but should also offer an educational aspect. The Skuddenhof Weseram plans to give holidaymakers and interested insights into the sheep posture and the processing of wool. This also raises awareness of the meaning and tradition of sheep farming in Brandenburg, which has often been in the background for recent years Cityreport.
