Reason adjusted problem fields: wood package agent industry facilitated via PPWR decision

Berlin, April 19, 2024 - The preliminary decision on the PPWR packaging Act ensures relief in the wood packing agent industry and the value chain of pallets, boxes and export packaging. In the original design version, the industry felt forgotten and threatened in its existence. The preliminary PPWR decision recognizes your dismay and the industry now feels relieved.

The planned restriction of the empty space component could be defused and there are exceptions when calculating the empty space with regard to sufficient large empty space to meet legal requirements or to protect the product. This is particularly important for machines with irregular shapes and sensitive products such as medical technology, optical devices, works of art and paintings.

The EU Commission must still write a number of delegated legal files in which, among other things, the calculation methods for "recyclability performance grades" and the "Design for Recycling" criteria are determined. The industry feels good for the future, since wood and metals are already being separated very well.
